The 1911 Census
The 1911 census was taken on the night of April 2nd and carries considerably more information in the image pages than any of the previous censuses. It is also unusual in that the preserved images are the household schedules themselves rather than the enumerator's copy of them - therefore the handwriting shown is that of the person completing the form.
It is quite an amazing experience to see an entire family of your ancestors written out in what may be your great-great grandfather's handwriting and we wish we could make these images available to you via this website but they - and the images from the other censuses - are crown copyright and the cost of a simple reproduction licence is incredibly high and that of a commercial licence is bordering on the astronomic...
The transcriptions that we have made are the best that we can offer you here. If you wish to obtain a copy of the original image then they can be obtained from the 'pay per view' site http://www.1911census.co.uk or via the subscription-based site at http://www.findmypast.co.uk.
We also have a transcription of the enumerator's notebook which lists every property, whether occupied or un-occupied, and serves to fill in the gaps between the household schedules and also reveals the commercial properties in the village that did not have any residential part to them.
