Oatlands Village Fayre 2013

Fete 2013Focussing on the centenary of the bells of St Mary Oatlands and the house history of the village's longest resident family, the fayre proved a great success and our stall drew considerably more attention than last year - due in no small part to the presence of Adeline Townsend (wife of Rev. John Hands Townsend - Vicar of Oatlands 1887-1915) played by our membership secretary, Celia Andrews, in appropriate costume (seen presenting the cusomoary cake for the old folk of the village.

Ann Bowyer, our treasurer provided sterling service all day on the stand and was an invaluable support with her family background of multiple generations in Oatlands.

The guided walks on Sunday, conducted by our research coordinator Duncan Amos, were a great success - with some people pre-booking for next year...

Latest additions to this website:

The 'problem' of the first pub in Oatlands has now, we believe, been sorted out and we can positively identify where it was located and who was there. See here.

The "Beneath Our Feet" research project has now gained sufficient facts to warrant inclusion. A millenium project by David & Janet Foster had a section on discoveries relating to the original site of The Hollies (later Westernhay) and you can read about that here.
